Yes, it's really a log! The piano students who demonstrate evidence of practice
get to nail a shiny brass brad onto the log. Our goal is to have it completely covered and use it as a pedestal for a plant at our piano recital in May.
There have been students who only get to watch their piano classmates add a brad. It's a great incentive and these students tend to practice so that they can use the hammer and nail the next week!
