Introducing...
PLAY and PLAY Piano Books
We use PLAY and PLAY piano book for our lessons. It is based upon the Kodály Method of teaching. The Kodály Method is a very logical way of teaching music literacy and offers the following unique features:
-
A successful child-developmental approach
-
Relates to the child's own physical and intellectual development
-
Follows the way a child learns naturally in a step-by-step sequence
-
Progresses from activities through game to song to music symbols
We understand how important music is in a child’s educational development. We also believe that teaching children music should be fun and effective. That is why we developed PLAY AND PLAY. It is a unique piano book that exclusively uses game songs and folk songs in a small group setting. Children are not bored when using the PLAY AND PLAY book! They are actively engaged in playing singing games from the beginning of the first lesson. Then they play these game songs on the piano.

REVISED STUDENT EDITION
PLAY AND PLAY PIANO BOOK FOR BEGINNERS REVISED STUDENT EDITION offers children a refreshing and innovative approach to learning the piano through game songs. This comprehensive piano series combines the joy of games with the fundamentals of piano playing, making it an engaging experience for learners of all ages.
Diane Engle wrote the PLAY AND PLAY piano book based on the Kodály Piano Teaching Method, and over 30 years of teaching, both school music and piano. This well-tested child developmental approach for learning to play the piano has children playing and singing a song from their first lesson.
The piano music is taken from an extensive collection of children's songs, including American folk songs as well as folk songs from other countries, and game songs, . Each piece is carefully selected to provide both enjoyment and skill-building opportunities that result in music literacy. Each song has an illustrated color sheet that engages the student and makes the learning exciting.

"Every beginner piano student I have used Diane's books with has loved them, including a precious 13 year old girl with down syndrome. The layout is easy for the students to read and understand and the songs progress at just the right pace --enough new information at a time to keep it interesting without ever being overwhelming. Because there are several songs at each new concept level, students can apply their new knowledge by learning a piece on their own and I can assess how well they understand the latest note or concept. The folk songs are tuneful and students really like them, especially after they have played the games! One of my students told me she liked this book because it had "real songs" in it, songs that she had had fun singing while playing games with her friends! I highly recommend these books for use in individual or group lessons!"
