There were two sessions of piano summer camp 2023. The first session had young beginners and the second session had teenagers. The teenage group was made up of beginning piano students as well as those who had had piano. How did I manage to have them in the same group? We focused on complex rhythms in the treble clef. The complex rhythms included 16th notes, 8th and 2 16ths, 2 16ths and 8th, dotted quarter followed by an 8th, and 8th followed by a dotted quarter, as well as syncopation. These rhythmic patterns were found in age-appropriate game songs. Yes, teenagers love to play games in piano class just like the younger students. Plus, they are VERY competitive which made it fun!
